Question: Is there a "Best" thick bar diameter?

Answer:

In days past, "thick bars" were usually made from solid stock - as the bars increased in diameter, they also increased substantually in weight.

For example, a 2-1/2 inch seven foot long solid thick bar weighs approximately 105 lbs. and a 3 inch seven foot long solid thick bar weighs approximately 150 lbs. This meant that as the diameter of the bars increased, the number of possible exercises decreased.

For example, the solid 2-1/2 inch bar mentioned above could be used for rows, presses, curls, cheat curls, deadlifts, shrugs and a few more. The 3" bar, however, could only be used for overhead pressing and possibly deadlifts as a result of the tremendous weight. What's more due to the weight and the diameter, only large-handed trainees could use the thicker bars effectively for a number of movements.

Black Iron Strength Thick Bars

The Black Iron Strength Thick Bars were manufactured to solve this problem. Due to their unique construction, these bars only weigh between 37.5 and 50 pounds depending on the diameter and length making them light enough to use for a variety of exercises for athletes of any hand size. No, there is no "Best" thick bar diameter, regardless of hand size. Just pick one and lift it - our most popular size is 2".
