Question: Which exercises can I do with a thick bar?

Answer:

To give you a few ideas: Any exercise that can be done with a traditional barbell can be done with a thickbar. Although keep in mind that due to the thicker-than-average-diameter, "pulling" movements such as deadlifts, rows, shrugs, cleans and snatches are particularly effective for building grip and forearm strength than the typical Olympic Bar.

Also, due to the rotational factor, cleans, high pulls and snatches are much more forgiving on the wrists during the course of the movement when a rotating thick bar is used. A "dead" thick bar will generally be very hard to the wrists since they absorb all of the rotational force of the movement which may lead to injury.

Brooks Kubik popularized heavy bench pressing with a 3" bar in Dinosaur Training We hope to have a complete thick bar training guide available in the near future. Stay tuned.
