They Said It Couldn't Be Closed...
But They Were Wrong

The 365-pound #4 Gripper was supposed to be a joke... the gripper that no one would ever close... but Mr. Joe Kinney, from Bean Station, Tennessee came along and proved them all wrong.

At 5'10 and 175-pounds, Joe wasn't a strongman, or even a weightlifter, but just a guy who made it his own personal challenge to build some of the strongest hands in history. He closed the #3... and not long after became the first man to CRUSH the 365-pound Ironmind #4 gripper...

It is a feat that people are still talking about and despite the fact that a few other individuals have come along to close the #4, none of them has absolutely mashed it like Joe did. He ground the handles together and made it look like a toy.

Well, a short while after Joe became certified, Joe thought that a lot of people would be interested in learning some of his unique training methods as well as see actual footage of his incredible #4 close so he put together a training video entitled "Get a Grip!" with Joe Kinney.

If you were lucky enough to see a copy back, you know how informative it was - straight and to the point - and containing the best grip training information ever put on film. In recent years though, became busy with some other projects and had to put the video on the back burner.

In a stroke of luck I was able to track down Joe Kinney and we met up. We ended up hitting it off (keep reading down the page to find out more information on how this happened). When I asked him if I could re-release his grip video on DVD, he was all for it and so we are proudly making Joe Kinney's original Get a Grip! DVD from 1998 available once again!

    I was able to watch an original copy of the "Get a Grip" video when it came out back in 1998. As mentioned above, it was very informative and it changed my perspective on grip training forever... like many people who watch the video, I had a lot of questions that I wanted to ask Joe. A few years went by and, as luck would have it, through a friend of a friend I was able to connect with Joe.

    I drove down to Tennesses and we met up and talked training for hours. I finally was able to ask Joe about some of the things that I had been wondering for quite a while.

    My original intention was to clear it with Joe to re-release the 1998 video, but after sitting down with Joe, and hearing about the many training questions that other people had sent him over the years, I thought it would be a very good idea to interview him, and include the additional footage on the new DVD.

    ... In the summer of 2009, we finally got a chance to make this happen. I thought that we would get maybe 15-20 minutes of new footage to include in the new dvd, but when two people start talking training... well, time starts to slow down a bit.

    Two hours later we had covered everything I could think of: details on gripper training... proper technique for the secret weapon... what a typical gripper routine looked like for Joe... how things changed from training for the #3 and for the #4... building maximum thumb strength... wrist roller training... his special early morning "Testopsterone for Breakfast" squat routine... The "Monster Gripper" .. We not only re-visited information and topics from the original video, but were able to discuss some things that were not included.
